The amazing dragonflies!

Dragonflies are amazing! They love the water and are exceptional flyers. They can fly over 30 miles per hour, can hover in one place,  and are able to fly forward and backwards.

Did you know dragonflies are fierce hunters with sharp teeth? These insects also have huge eyes and can see in every direction, except right behind them. That is because their eyes are made up of thousands of smaller eyes, allowing them to see in many directions.

Dragonflies love to be in close proximity to the water. They are actually hatched in the water and the larva lives in the water for about a year.  Once dragonflies leave the water, they start to fly. Although they have six legs, they are not good at walking. However, they are phenomenal  in the air.

Dragonflies spend time in the morning warming themselves in the sun. They do this before they start their seemingly endless flying throughout the day.

They eat mosquitoes, gnats, smaller dragonflies, and other insects. Dragonflies capture the their prey by forming a basket with their legs. Then they trap their prey and bite them. Interestingly, dragonflies eat their prey while they are still in the air.

Unfortunately, these creatures live only for about a month.

Christians can learn so much from the dragonflies. Like the dragonflies, we need to live in the water of the Word of God. We must soar in the air so we can have a clearer view of everything around us. We must have sharp teeth to eat the Word and to attack our spiritual enemies.

We also need discernment and the other spiritual gifts so we can accurately  see what the Lord is showing us. Since our enemy is described as a snake, we must fly high because snakes cannot reach us in the air!

In comparison to the dragonflies, we must warm ourselves in the healing of the sun (Son) so we can be victorious throughout our day. We are given limited time on earth, so we need to be obedient to God and strategic in our Christian walk.

If you think you are not victorious, just remember that the small dragonflies are accomplishing greatness though they are tiny.

Fun fact

Dragonflies represent change. When you see them,  ask the Lord to show you what changes He is performing in your life.
