Tamar-Rape victim in the Bible (Tamar-means date palm tree)

  • Tamar was the daughter of King David (2 Samuel 13:1).
  • She was beautiful (verse 1).
  • Her half-brother, Amnon, lusted and obsessed over her (verses 1-2).
  • He knew his desire for her was wrong (verse 2).
  • Amnon’s crafty cousin, Jonadab, told him to pretend he was sick and to ask for Tamar to serve him privately (verse 5).
  • When Amnon and Tamar were alone, he grabbed her (verse 11).
  • She cried no, calling his behavior wicked (verse 12).
  • He raped her and said, “Get out of here!” (verse 14-15).
  • Amnon told his servants to throw her out and to lock the door behind her (verse 17).
  • Tamar tore her beautiful robe that the king’s virgin daughters wore (verse 18-19).
  • She lived as a desolate woman in her brother Absalom’s house (verse 20).

Do you know anyone who have been through what Tamar experienced? Let us pray for those who have been raped or mistreated in any way.

Prayer: Dear God, please restore all the Tamars in the world. Heal them, Father. And help them to forget their years of sorrow by filling them with many years of abundance peace, joy, and love. Cause these individuals to forgive their abusers and themselves. Let no bitterness fill their hearts. Father, you said in Psalm 107:20 that you sent Your word and healed Your people. We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin (Hebrews 4:15). Halleluiah, by your stripes, Jesus, we are healed.
