Servants needed immediatelyI heard a sermon this week, and the minister said, “When you are called by God to work in the church, there is only one position available all the time…serving. Nothing else.”
Christians are called by God to serve others. The world teaches us that life is about us. We are taught to do what makes us happy, to follow our dreams, and to focus on ourselves (me, myself, and I). However, God teaches us something totally different. Are you ready for this? Here it comes. Jesus says we are to be servants. When you became a Christian, it was never and ever will be about what you want. God included you into his family (the church) for you to use your gifts and talents to bless his people. In fact, he states, “The greatest among you shall be your servant (Matthew 23:11).” Therefore, if you want greatness, you have to humble yourself and take care of others. Also, in Mark 9:36, Jesus tells his disciples that if they want to be first, they must be willing to be last of all and servant to all. And when you obey that commandment of Jesus with a righteous heart, you are in fact worshipping God. Furthermore, as you serve the Body of Christ, do not look to the church to repay you. God will take care of rewarding you because “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed,” (Proverbs 19: 17). How do you know you are effectively serving others? 1. You are submitted to God. 2. You walk uprightly. 3. You care about the people you are serving. 4. You help and encourage others. 5. You put others first (Philippians 2:3). |
