Rachel Nelson: God created each of us for a special purpose

On February 7, there was a wonderful breakfast at the Christian Women' Connections (at Solid Rock Church of God). The women served a variety of deliciously prepared Caribbean foods which included ackee and saltfish, green banana, just to name a few.

It was good to see Pastor Blenman in the kitchen cooking, and his lovely wife, Sister Jo-Ann (and the other church members) serving the women at the breakfast. That was not the first time I witnessed this couple catering to their members. I have seen Pastor Blenman serving as a photographer and Sister Jo-Ann working as an usher/doorkeeper and serving food (at one time).

However, that was my first time attending a breakfast at the church, and I was extremely impressed by the loving atmosphere. Women were chatting, laughing, and praising each other.

Then the keynote speaker, Sister Rachel Nelson, spoke about women fulfilling their purpose. She focused on Bible verses like Ephesians 2:10, which reads, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” and Psalm 139:14-18, which states, “You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”

Rachel spoke profoundly to the women encouraging them to explore who they are in God. She instructed them to submit themselves to the Father so He could use them to reach greatness in Him.

This vibrant sister even gave a powerful testimony of her late father, who was a mighty man of God. In that story, her father attempted to gather other men to go out and evangelize in a particular area, even though he had trouble walking.

Rachel said her father arrived at the location he and the other men had agreed upon. He waited a long time, but most of the brothers did not show up (except one other gentleman who had no legs). Her father cried out to God saying, “They have good legs and they will not work (evangelize). Lord, why did you take away my ability to walk?”

While still in his car, Rachel’s father and the other man decided to witness for Christ from inside the vehicle. The two of them simply proclaimed Jesus to anyone who walked past them.

That testimony brought tears to our eyes.

This energetic woman of God also motivated her Christian sisters to embrace their uniqueness. Emphasizing that their differences made them exceptional, and the women did clap consistently throughout her message.

There were many older women in the audience, and Rachel definitely sparked a fire inside of them as well, encouraging the mothers in Zion to step out and to accomplish what God has predestined for them to achieve.

At the end, Rachel received a standing ovation from the women in the room. An older lady even commented about finishing her book. Yes, the women at Solid Rock Church of God exited the building at 1904 Michigan Avenue, Kissimmee, FL 34744 determined to accomplish their God-given purpose.
