Pant after GodHave you ever been extremely thirsty? I think we have all experienced dehydration on some level.
Yesterday, I watched as our dog panted for about 20 minutes, and Psalm 42 instantly came to my mind. Our family was at the beach for several hours, and when it was time to drive home, the dog just continued breathing heavily with her tongue hanging from her mouth. I focused on her stomach as it rose and collapsed in a steady rhythm. We had given her water, but that did not immediately stop the panting. As Christians, we should always pant after God. Psalm 42:1-2 states, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” We should have a continuous hunger for the Word of God and for prayer (and the other things that draw us closer to our Lord). Our stomachs should be ascending and descending because we are gasping after the King of kings and Lord of lords. Nothing should be able to prevent us from thirsting after our Savior, Jesus Christ. Choose this day to be like the deer and drink from the Word of God. Prayer: Dear Father, help me to always thirst for you. Forgive me for putting other things before you. You are my number one desire in the name of Jesus I pray. Amen. |
