Halal the Lord foolishly

Picture
Recently, I wrote about yadah, which is a Hebrew word that means to extend your hand (throw out the hand). Now let us look at halal.

Hallelujah actually comes from the root word, halal, which means “to be clear, to shine, to boast, show, to rave, celebrate, to be clamorously ( making a loud and confused noise) foolish.”

When David was dancing out of his clothes to God that was an example of halal. David was celebrating the Lord enthusiastically and did not mind appearing foolish either.

The next time you worship, stretch out your hand (yadah) and twirl around freely (halal) as you boast about the majesty of Jehovah. God inhabits the praises of His people, so the more you halal and yadah the Lord the more His presence will rest on you.

Here are some Bible verses with the word halal
  • Praise (halal) ye the Lord, praise (halal) o ye servants of the Lord, praise (halal) the name of the Lord (Psalm 113:1-3.)
  • Praise (halal) the Lord! Praise (halal) God in his sanctuary; Praise (halal) him in his mighty expanse (Psalm 150:1).
  • Let them praise (halal) his name in the dance: let them sing praises with the timbrel and harp (Psalm 149:3).
