So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh (Galatians 5:16-17).
The paint on our front door was chipping, so my husband had to scrap the entire door to remove all of the paint. After, the door became smooth because he had restored it back to its original state, which was plain wood. Then he was able to repaint the door. You see, If he has attempted to paint over the chips, the sight would have been unpleasant. On our journey with the Lord, every so often, He will scrape us with His Word. When He sees areas in our lives that are chipping, He will not simply paint over us to save us the time and trouble of being inconvenienced or hurt. No, He will first scrape and scrub the undesirable and imperfect parts of our lives, and redesign us according to His Word. This process can be painful and embarrassing. Why? Because others will at times see the chips of your life flying about as the Lord scours you. But in order to be pleasing to God, we cannot enter His presence with filth covering our temples (spirits). We have to be washed in His Word, transformed in our minds, and healed from our sinful ways. Then the Father will look at us, after we are reconstructed to His image, and He will smile and say, “You are pleasing in my sight.” Previous article Let your light shine |
