Take the flashlight of the Word and search for the dead flies in your life. Ecclesiastes 10:1 states, “As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.”
We all will agree that everyone and everything starts off small, right. Then they get bigger, correct? So it is with the little problems in our lives. That lying problem started with a little “innocent” lie. Then before you know it, you became a pro at deceiving others. That lust problem began as an “innocent” crush on someone. Then the next thing you know you are forming sexual images in your mind and developing a perverted habit. All of those sins actually came about because you lacked self-control, which is part of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). If we would only control ourselves (crucify the flesh), then we will yield to the Holy Spirit when He shows us those small flies that begin to buzz around our “dead” works. However, lack of self-control lures us to run after carnality. Thus, we ignore the flies, and they get trapped inside our filthy prison cells of sins and die within our souls, leaving a stench. You see, flies follow dead things, meaning, they become attracted to you because you are mingling in dead works of the flesh. Hebrews 9:14 says, “how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Allow the Blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse you from your sinful habits, so the foul odor of the dead flies of your sinful life can be removed. Thus, you will become a perfume that is pleasing to God, and you will live in wisdom and honor instead of shame. Previous article God wants to scrape the mess from your life |
