Remember, the old "us" (our life before Christ) have been crucified with Christ. Therefore, we should be dead to those old ways and should be living in the Spirit.
Therefore, a "dead man" shouldn't be raging in anger. Instead, we, the Blood washed saints should "be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath [anger]" (James 1:19).
People should be able to see our peaceful demeanor as much as possible because "the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God" (verse 20).
Glory to God! Don't let the devil control your soul (mind, will, and emotions). Be completely surrendered even when you "feel" like operating with a distasteful attitude. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Our enemy creates situations that he hopes will cause us to lash out like raging "monsters." Why? So he can embarrass us, cause others to despise our witness, and shame our God. RESIST him now!
The Message version of this same verse says, "Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. God’s righteousness doesn’t grow from human anger. So throw all spoiled virtue and cancerous evil in the garbage. In simple humility, let our gardener, God, landscape you with the Word, making a salvation-garden of your life (James 1:19-21, MSG)."
