Have you ever seen a dead tree that is planted near water? Trees need water to flourish, right? If not, they will wither and die.
Likewise, we Christians need the water of the Word so we can grow vigorously in the Lord. All of us have seen a withered tree. Unattractive, right? That is because the leaves are brown and dry instead of green and healthy. Jeremiah 17:7-8 states, “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord…They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Continue trusting the Lord because that means you are blessed. Also be consistent in reading the Bible because the Word is like water, which satisfies our thirsty souls (Ephesians 5:26), causes us to have firm roots in the ways of God, and enables us to bear fruit. Psalm 1:3 also says a blessed person is like “a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper (Also see John 15). So what kind of fruit will a Christian produce? Galatians 5:22 says if we submit ourselves to God, the fruit of the Spirit will manifest in our lives. And we know the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When those nine spiritual characteristics are developing in our lives, then we know we are planted by the water (which is the Word of God), and we will prosper. |
