Be holy, for God is holyWhat does the word holy mean? This word is actually defined as anything or anyone that is dedicated or consecrated to God. Some synonyms for holy are blessed, sacred, divine, and hallowed.
Beloved, the true and living God we serve is holy, and He requires for us to be holy as well. In 1 Peter 1:16, God tells us "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.” Furthermore, Isaiah 6:3 gives us a clear concept of how we are to honor God. In that passage, Prophet Isaiah actually saw seraphim flying around praising the King of kings. They cried out, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts.” Later in Revelation 4:8, we read about similar beings repeating day and night, "HOLY, HOLY, HOLY IS THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME.” Now that we have established that God is blessed, sacred, and divine, let us never forget that if we ever want to be pleasing to the Lord we too must be holy. Psalm 24:4 reminds us that only those who are pure can ascend the mountain of the Lord. Beloved, let's praise God that Jesus Christ makes us holy, causing us to have access to our heavenly Father. Always remember to be holy, for our Father is holy and requires for us to forever be consecrated unto Him. |
